SVP Dennis Morrison sharpens focus on a state where the firm is already successfully working.
Volkert welcomes Gerald (Jerry) Dougherty, PE, as the Maryland Practice Leader in its Mid-Atlantic region. With more than 40 years of diverse engineering, management and business development experience and a proven track record of client success, Dougherty now oversees the firm’s growing business throughout the state of Maryland.
“Having Jerry on board brings additional depth to our transportation team and allows Volkert to provide our comprehensive transportation services to clients in Maryland,” said Dennis Morrison, PE, senior vice president of Volkert’s Mid-Atlantic region.
Under Dougherty’s leadership, Volkert is opening its first Maryland office in Columbia on May 1. The new office is located at Columbia Corporate Park, 8825 Stanford Boulevard, Suite 307, Columbia, MD 21045. The office can be reached at 410-696-4154.
“Our new location near Baltimore shows the state that we mean business,” says Dougherty. “From here we can invest in Maryland’s communities while expanding our full-service offering to existing and new clients.”
Dougherty’s experience includes design and construction management services in transportation and public works for federal, state, and local clients. He has managed projects for Maryland State Highway Administration at multiple District offices, Maryland Transit Authority, Maryland Transportation Authority, and the City of Baltimore.
Dougherty also served as Harford County’s Chief Engineer for the Construction Management Division, responsible for providing services that include construction quality inspections, constructability reviews, change order review, and processing and claims analysis.
Dougherty earned his civil engineering degree from the University of Maryland and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Florida.
