The Tennessee Department of Transportation selected Volkert to design and manage the expansion of I-75 and the construction of a new interchange at Enterprise South near Chattanooga, Tennessee.
This project involved the widening of I-75 from four to eight lanes over two miles and construction of a new interchange over a distance of two-thirds of a mile. Volkert provided a field survey, geotechnical services, and construction engineering inspection. Additional services included erosion control and permit compliance, inspection of work performed, coordinating utilities, and ensuring timely completion of project. A public involvement meeting helped incorporate community needs into the final design of the project. Volkert also functioned as a TDOT construction office for this project.
The improvements facilitate access to the Enterprise South Industrial Park, a joint venture of Chattanooga and Hamilton County. The project was opened to traffic three months ahead of schedule and was awarded both the Quality Award and the Innovation Award from the Southeast Concrete Alliance, as well as a top performance rating from the TDOT Design Divison.
