This roundabout brings improvements in traffic movements, safety, and aesthetics to the intersection of County Roads 48 and 13 for the City of Fairhope and Baldwin County.
The project consisted of upgrading the intersection of C.R. 13 and C.R. 48 (Fairhope Avenue) from a two-way stop (beacon) controlled intersection to a single lane roundabout. The intersection sees a daily traffic volume of 12,000 to 15,000 vehicles and also has multiple utilities in and around the intersection to avoid or relocate.
Volkert’s services included the development of construction plans, environmental permitting, utility relocation coordination, field surveys, right-of-way mapping, deeds, and tract sketches. Additional services included drainage improvements.
Environmental services included the completion of a Programmatic Categorical Exclusion NEPA document, which required wetland delineations, permitting compliance, cultural resources and archaeology studies.
The project was completed in 2016.
