The Florida Department of Transportation contracted Volkert for the milling and resurfacing of 2.78 miles of SR 597/Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa, Florida. This roadway is a high speed, six lane divided arterial.
A lane specific pavement design was developed as a method to maximize cost savings. In addition to standard milling and resurfacing plans, Volkert also designed improvements to the existing curb cut ramps to meet ADA requirements, designed for the replacement of bridge guardrail approach transitions, and provided for bus landings and bus pads for future shelter enclosures. The Volkert team coordinated closely with the Florida Department of Transportation and local government agencies related to the project’s multi-modal requirements. Volkert was also tasked to upgrade the existing intersection signals.
