Volkert provided bridge inspection services and construction engineering inspection (CEI) services in the restoration of the historic and scenic Walnut Street Bridge in Chattanooga, TN.

Volkert was contracted by Chattanooga to provide the safety inspection of the Walnut Street Bridge. The purpose of this inspection was to determine the structural integrity of primary and secondary bridge members and to identify structural and non-structural deficiencies which threatened to compromise the structural integrity of the bridge or create safety hazards.

Following the inspection, revitalization of the Walnut Street Bridge involved rehabilitation and reconstruction of north approach on the decking of a historic 1890 Pennsylvania truss bridge.  Walnut Street is one of the longest pedestrian bridges in the world and spans the Tennessee River in downtown Chattanooga. Volkert also provided CEI services during the construction phase.
