welcomes Craig Beissel, PE, as the Pennsylvania bridge leader in its Mid-Atlantic region. Beissel brings over 36 years of diverse bridge experience including design, inspection, construction, and maintenance of varied bridge types.
“Being based in Pennsylvania, Craig expands the reach of our bridge design and inspection services,” said Dennis Morrison, PE, senior vice president of Volkert’s Mid-Atlantic region. “His experience enhances our ability to offer additional expertise to all our clients.”
Beissel’s most recent experience includes working on the consultant project management team for PennDOT’s P3 Rapid Bridge Replacement Project, which replaced 558 structurally deficient bridges statewide within three years. He is also a former PennDOT employee and worked as the assistant chief bridge engineer, statewide bridge program delivery manager, and statewide bridge inspection QA manager in PennDOT’s central office.
Beissel was a key contributor in the development of PennDOT’s bridge asset management prioritization program, providing fact-based modeling and coordination with the PennDOT districts to develop the right mix of bridge preservation, maintenance, rehabilitation, and replacement projects. Data extracted from the Bridge Management System was used to develop projections showing various levels of bridge funding needs, which helped gain support for increased infrastructure funding.
Beissel’s experience extends beyond Pennsylvania, as he performed bridge and sign structure inspections for the Maryland Transportation Authority’s I-95 Corridor and design work on various bridge projects along major U.S. waterways, including the Mississippi and Ohio rivers.
“I am excited to be part of the Volkert team, and I’m looking forward to working with many of my talented co-workers in the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond to expand Volkert’s expertise into the Pennsylvania market,” said Beissel.
Beissel earned his civil engineering degree from Pennsylvania State University and is a licensed professional engineer in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Georgia.
