Volkert’s waterfront experience ranges from the design of port facilities for ships to renovation of existing docks and piers. Our comprehensive capabilities include planning, environmental services, facilities and infrastructure design, construction-phase services, and support for operations and maintenance.

Volkert’s expertise includes conducting feasibility studies, recommending heavy equipment specifications, and designing freight handling systems. Our military assignments include the renovation of existing wharves on the east and Gulf coasts, design of mobile boat hoist facilities in Honduras, and award-winning site development for the U.S. Naval Station on Mobile Bay.

Airports

Volkert provides full-service design to international, regional, and general aviation airports. Our airport planning team provides master planning, site selection studies, and management and administration of FAA and state grants. 

Our aviation design experience includes runways, taxiways, and aprons; flexible and rigid pavement assessments; drainage assessments; general aviation hangars; culverts and structures; navigational aids; wildlife assessment and mitigation; airfield lighting and security; public parking lots; and access road networks.
