Traci Williams Recognized for Leadership and Community Impact

April 16, 2025

In March 2025, Traci Williams, CCM, Program Manager at Volkert, Inc., was honored by Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin as one of the city’s StrongHer candidates, a program he launched to celebrate and elevate women making a difference in Birmingham, Ala. Now in its fifth year, the StrongHer campaign highlights women who are breaking barriers and creating lasting change in their communities. Through her dedication to mentoring, project leadership, and advocacy for young professionals, Traci exemplifies the spirit of this initiative.

With 28 years of experience in construction and program management, Traci specializes in cost control, schedule management, and constructability reviews to minimize change orders and ensure projects stay on track. Since joining Volkert in 2005, she has played a key role in managing multimillion-dollar projects from design through construction and warranty phases. She works closely with clients to establish budgets and programming requirements while maintaining a strong focus on quality and compliance.

Traci has overseen more than $1 billion in construction projects that have helped reshape Birmingham, including a runway expansion at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, UAB’s North Pavilion Hospital, several Birmingham City Schools, and the Birmingham Xpress Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) System. The BRT project held special meaning for her, as the East Terminus Station was built just one block from where she grew up.

“It was so heartwarming to put my hands in something that was going to change the area that I knew so well,” says Traci Williams, CCM, Program Manager.

Beyond her technical expertise, Traci is committed to uplifting future generations in the engineering and construction industries. She has volunteered with organizations such as Junior Achievement USA, the National Association of Women in Construction, and the YWCA Central Alabama. She is also actively involved with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and is one of the 50 founding board members of The Brilliant Black Girl Collective. This initiative, launched in December 2022, raises money for Black female high school seniors attending Birmingham City Schools.

“I was one of those kids who believed the teachers when they said you can be anything you want to be. So it was important for me to give back to little Black girls like me,” says Traci Williams, CCM, Program Manager.
