Foley Sportsplex

When the City of Foley envisioned a comprehensive sports complex to serve its community, Volkert helped make that vision a reality.

Volkert developed a master plan with the Foley Recreation Department for a ninety-acre state-of-the-art sports park. Phase One entailed an overall site plan for the park with multiple fields and facilities for baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball, tennis, and basketball. Supporting amenities included walking paths, concession stands, restrooms, picnic areas, an outdoor theater, parking facilities, electrical and lighting capabilities, and a five-acre lake. The layout was designed to resemble a baseball with the brick paver sidewalks as seams. Phase Two comprised of tennis courts, access roads, as well as water, sewer, electrical, and drainage structures required for the complex.

Electrical design services included lighting for the ball fields and parking lots. Survey services encompassed boundary and topographic surveys and development of a survey property map. Environmental services included a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Stormwater Permit for construction activities and a best management practices plan for soil and sediment erosion control.

Throughout the process, Volkert met with City officials, committees, and stakeholders to ensure that the project matched the vision of leaders and citizens. The Foley Sports Complex was named Sports Complex of the Year in 2011 by the Alabama Turfgrass Association.
